Do you think it can get any hotter outside right now? When we took these, it was literally 91 degrees out there and muggy.

The good news?

This outfit is on sale and is super cool, comfortable, & as chic as it gets on these hot summer days.

Enjoy your day!

Although it’s only Monday, merlot & champagne are always a good idea. Especially when they are the color choices in an outfit for an upcoming wedding, date night, or night out with the girls!

how do you say des moines?

This past weekend Beckett and I stole away for a quick weekend in Des Moines, IA to see a Rodgers and Hammersteins Cinderella musical. And it was fantastic.

The morning of the show, we checked out of the hotel and had fun exploring the little city of Des Moines before heading over to the Civic Center.

We had some great coffee at a little place called Java Joes Coffee House.

We also got to go see the hotel where Beckett and his dad would go stay for Beckett’s Barbazon competitions in high school! I made him “walk the runway.” It was hilarious.

Cinderella’s costume changes were my favorite part of the show! She twirled around and all of a sudden she was wearing a different dress! We have no idea how they did that!

a (not so) secret garden

These photos are officially the last from our little Stillwater outing last week. We found this little fountain area right by the Lowell Inn and it was so cute that we sat out there after breakfast. It was perfect.mint shirt

Blouse: mint green from Ann Taylor Outlet, but I really love this Free People one and this one that is under $10 from Macy’s! || Shorts: American Eagle || Wedges: Michael Kors (similar) or these fun ones with a cute design! || Hat: Fedora or here’s the brown version that I LOVE || Sunnies: similar style & price here [Not pictured: Leopard-Print Calf Hair belt… || Necklace: similar here from Saks 5th Ave].

And the ever-handsome Beckett standing next to the drinking fountain and some clematis. Does anyone else have a hard time saying the word clematis without giggling? I accidentally said it wrong in front of my neighbor yesterday when I was doing some yard work and Beckett had to correct me. I may or may not have said something very close to the the name of a disease you learn about in health class instead. Whoops.

Monday Must-Haves

Warning: this post may make you wish for Fall and cause irrational behavior such as the desire to wear leather pants in 90 degree weather. The writer is not responsible for any heatstroke as a result of such actions.

Monday Must-Haves

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 / 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10

Last week, some of the major retail stores put a whole bunch of items on sale. A lot of my favorite blog-peeps were doing features on their favorite finds from the “#nsale” aka Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. However, I found that a lot of other places were having great sales too. Take for example the pants labeled no. 9 on the picture. They are real leather Helmut Lang pants from Saks off 5th. So, already, there are three things we know about them: 1) they are made well, 2) they will fit well, and 3) they are 70% off.

Oh and those leggings on the left? Real leather and they are under $100.00

Can it get any better?

Maybe not.

I put together these two looks because I am loving black leather and leopard for fall. I know, I know, they were popular five years ago so this is nothing new, but the point is… they were popular then and they are popular now and they aren’t going anywhere for a long time. Plus, the leather pants seem to be on super sales this summer.

For the look on the right, I included a pop of color with the lavender sweater partly because I think that fall needs some bright colors, but also partly because I actually bought the sweater and pants (on a HUGE sale) and I wanted to see how I might wear them for fall! Don’t get me wrong, I am still loving summer, but I do dream of those cool, crisp fall days when I can wear these leather pants without suffering heat stroke.

I think the key to getting your leather pants though is finding a flattering fit for you that is timeless and chic. If you are in the market for leather pants and your budget allows it, I would seriously order the Helmut Lang option above because they are amazing for a great price. If you are vegan or need a less expensive pair, these pleather options might be your best bet. Consider these, these, or these.

I hope you enjoy!

let’s brooch the subject

Sometimes it’s nice to add a little something special to an outfit, whether it is a cute belt, a great necklace, or a hair accessory.

Below you will see the steps I used to transform the brooch (from this post) so it can also be a hair accessory!

Step 1: select a brooch that you love (thrift or antique stores are great for this)

Step 2: gather together two bobby pins, the brooch, glue, and a disposable surface (in case you’re like me and get glue everywhere)!

Step 3: fugure out where each bobby pin will hit the brooch so you know where to put the glue.

Step 4: put something like Kleenex between the top & bottom parts of the bobby pins to keep them apart & keep them from getting permanently stuck together. I didn’t do this at first and I had to peel them apart. I did this in the car on a road trip with the hubs so I only had my J. Crew catalogue so I used that.

Step 5: hold it steadily for about five minutes… For each bobby pin.

Step 6: style with curls or a sleek ponytail!

I would love to see if any of you do this & I will post your pics in a roundup later!
