5 of my favorite things *add to wishlist immediately*

1: Two Tone LEOPARD Teddy Sweater

I have been meaning to share this leopard teddy sweater with you all for so long, but the problem is that whenever I put it on we are either too busy to snap a picture or I feel so cozy I just want to nap!

The sweater is from Shein and you can either click on the links I made on the words or head to the Shein.com/us website and use the search ID  830253. Literally $15 + my discount and free shipping right now! How’s that for Black Friday Deals?!

Don’t forget that Shein is also offering my readers an exclusive discount: Q4TheClassy15 (Extra 15% off any purchase, valid from October 1st- December 31th, only US site: https://us.shein.com)

I was looking through my closet last night and realized that by now, most of the shirts I own are Shein brand because whenever I purge my closet, I keep my favorites!

It’s funny how that works. I used to have a bunch of designer sweaters + tops, but as I try to simplify I find myself keeping things I feel comfortable wearing. I tend to keep things that are comfortable, inexpensive, and chic.

2: Cool unique rings

This OBJEKTS store ring in white stone with gold is giving me all the feels this holiday season!

I have to admit though, the rainbow stone version is pretty rad too!

3: Personalized Tumblers

These Starbucks inspired coffee mugs from Etsy are so cute with the animal print! I looked specifically to see if someone made them with the tortoise shell print too, but no dice. I really like these though!

A few other coffee tumblers I like are: Anything from Apples Hugs & Coffee Mugs or this kind with a personalized name or slogan in a gold ring around the Starbucks logo. Full disclosure, the woman who owns Apples Hugs & Coffee Mugs is a teacher friend of mine and she does such a fantastic job! And if you can dream it, she can do it! She made a huge coffee cup for my husband last year and he LOVES it! Here it is below…

4: Real Art

Soooo this may seem like a shameless plug, and it kinda is, but I really think it’s important to give gifts around the holidays that are meaningful and personal. Buying real art is a great way to do that. In the past I’ve gone to Target or other big stores like that and bought paintings and pictures to decorate. Of course those places give lots of people jobs too, but none of those employees actually depend on you buying art to make ends meet each month. They didn’t make it. They don’t care. But actual artists– creative entrepreneurs tying to sell their work — care a ton!

You know you can find my work and custom orders on the homepage of this site, but I also wanted to include some other artists who are worth checking out. First is Clementine Sunshine, an old friend of mine who makes fantastically groovy art, cards, and now calendars! Another artist who is worth a peek if you like abstracted, beachy/pastel colored work is Tiel Duncan. And her prints are super affordable.

5: The gift of creativity

All the experts say that spending $$ on things don’t make us humans happy, but spending on experiences can. And we see this in our lives too. KonMarie showed us how to regain our joy and purge all of the excessive buildup that happens when we buy THINGS. At the same time, we also know that making art is totally therapeutic in this world of constant motion, it’s calming to sit down and create something.

I don’t know if you heard, but in April I created an art subscription box, Classy Artist Box, to help others prioritize artistic creativity. There are a few different box options for different age groups, a homeschool art curriculum, and a box option for adults. Originally it was only a subscription box– meaning you get boxes in the mail each month unless you cancel or pause your subscription. But recently I added a new option called ProjPacks that are a project you get as a one-time purchase. Each box comes with an exclusive online video lesson, written instructions, as well as all supplies needed to do the project (except water and a video viewing device). 😆

Here I am fulfilling some of our orders this month. It honestly brings me so much joy knowing I’m bringing art into the homes of so many lovely customers each month!

I’ll link our ProjPack video below too!

Anyway, I’ll stop rambling about it but I had to add it to my list of 5 things because I truly believe in this product and am so excited to share it!

How soon is too soon?

Team Thanksgiving or Team Christmas?

I’m sure you’ve noticed that you can find an article to confirm anything you want on the internet: aliens are real, chocolate is good for you, coffee is bad for you or really good for you… it’s all there. And now research shows people who decorate for Christmas early (before thanksgiving) are happier. Yes, folks, it’s all there, written by an expert! What do you think of all of this? Tell us below!

Wellesley and I got a few things out today, but nothing spectacular. I’m not sure how in-depth our decor will be this year. Last year we put out every decoration we had right after Halloween and I was sick of all of the clutter before Christmas Eve! I almost felt guilty being so excited to put it all away because I knew the kids & Beckett were loving it all still.

The Christmas Painting:

The Christmas print is one I painted of a car and a Christmas tree a few years ago. I love it because it has silver accents and it’s perfect classic addition to your Christmas decor!

You can shop this super affordable work of art with this link or by clicking on the shopping bag at the top of this website and scrolling down to it.

The Plaid Boyfriend Shirt:

My patch tartan boyfriend shirt (search #: 603411) is from Shein, you guessed it, Shein! I’m wearing a size medium. It’s sleeves are a little on the short side for me so I tend to roll them up, but I’m pretty tall (5’10”) so I think they should fit most people in length.

If you are looking for any holiday clothes or just an update to your closet, Shein has great options at AMAZING price points. Example, this top was $15! Plus my 15% off code: Q4TheClassy15 makes shopping even better! Valid through Dec 31st 2019!

So how soon is too soon to decorate for Christmas? I think we are all big girls and can make that decision for ourselves, but I have to say, a little reminder that Jesus came & holiday cheer never hurt anyone!

Also, a special thank you to those of you who have been praying for Wolfie. I’ve heard from a few of you and we appreciate your continued prayers as we continue to monitor and make sure he’s ok! We are a lot more confident right now that he is fine, but it’s still one of those things in the back of our minds. Your prayers mean the world to us.

Speaking of Wolfie: spider-man (aka Beckett) came for a visit and Wolfie was so excited! The boys have been watching the 60s original spider-man cartoons lately and wolfie is obsessed!

Beckett had this spider-man suit custom made back when he was in college & we were dating. Not entirely sure why, but I think it has something to do with him buying an auction of over 10,000 comic books on eBay because it was “a good deal.” 😅😅😅😅 He would wear the suit while trying to sell the comics by the curb once school got out! 😆 #welaughnow Somehow he actually sold most of them, but we still have a half a dozen boxes that follow us like a puppy wherever we go. 🤪

If you or someone you know likes comics, please email TheClassyArtist@gmail.com and I’ll give you a deal! Just don’t tell Beckett 🤣

Honey, if you’re reading this, I’m kidding about selling your comics. Or am I?

Sorrow, satin, and finding joy in the little things

Have you ever been so stressed and then suddenly the weight of the worry lifts? Then joy floods and you are in a state of…. thankfulness! It’s like the rainbow of God’s promise after a storm. ⛈ 🌈 That’s how I’ve been feeling lately and I want to tell you a little bit about it. Maybe I’ll say more later, but for now… a little bit. 😘

Our family has felt like we are in a flash flood lately, but I didn’t come here to complain about it… I came to encourage you in your storm. You see, lately I’ve come to understand that life truly is difficult. BUT no matter how hard the wind and rain try to break you, there’s nothing like hiding under the Solid Rock for safety. And yes, when I write, “solid rock” I mean Jesus.

Our world felt like it was about to cave in at any second, but God saw us in our helplessness and He not only showed us repeatedly how much He cares, but He showed me that no matter what happens, He is still good and still has good plans for me & my family.

Our son has a health condition that puts him at a heightened risk for something horrible. I can’t even write the word right now. Every few months we have to monitor his abdomen for tumors. When the doctor called a few months ago telling us they found a spot on the ultrasound we were beyond worried while we waited for the next ultrasound. I like to control things and fix things and it was something I could neither control nor fix. All we could do was turn to the One who controls the winds and the rain. That was a very difficult month this summer.

Then there was the inconclusive job search. Endless applications and phone calls. Interviews and waiting. Hoping. Waiting. Praying and praying more. Still waiting and looking.

The retail job I took in the meantime (while also trying to grow my business at night) was excruciating for a few reasons, but I was happy to be there if it helped my family. Until I nearly passed out from exhaustion, and suffered from inexplicable leg weakness and shaking. There were trips to the doctor to rule out anything serious. Tests and more tests. Still tests.

BUT GUESS WHAT?!? It’s those difficult times in the storm– the health scares, the job insecurity, the longing for the thing you want most– that teach us to be better people who are stronger and more empathetic. But only if we choose to let God take the sharp, broken pieces of our souls and rebuild them into something better. We can’t do it on our own, we need the ultimate Creator to come and remake us into a colorful mosaic… one that tells a story of triumph and love.

Life is hard. And I wish I could make all of the worries disappear, but life can still be beautiful and full of laughter once you find your strength in Christ alone. I know that’s the only way I was able to get through this summer and even now as we continue on an uncertain path. 🙏🏼✨💖

Now for some girl talk… recently I was feeling like I needed to wear something a little special, but I still wanted to be comfy. Do you ever feel like that? I skimmed my closet, forgetting about this lil number and was delighted to see these dainty little polka dots on the soft satin fabric! It’s absolutely a delight to toss on this gorgeous champagne blouse from Shein! So comfy!

Use code Q4TheClassy15 for 15% off the site from now until Dec 31, 2019!

I am wearing a size medium, which I think fits true to size. I especially love that the sleeves are long enough for me because I’m 5’10”

I’m not perfect, my life isn’t perfect, I’m not a saint, my kitchen usually isn’t this clean, I say what pops in my head too often, and my hair isn’t usually done, but from one flawed girl to another, we’ve got this one life and it will be hard but we can still have JOY!

If you are going through a storm right now, I’d love to hear about your journey and what you are learning through it. I’d also love to pray for your strength in the difficult times.

$7 Halloween Mantle Decor

Painting is our family painting we did when Wolfie turned 1

Hello there, happy October!

We have been looking forward to decorating for Fall/Halloween for months so when October 1st hit, we knew it was the day!

Now onto the good stuff! Have you seen the black butterfly Halloween decor picture circulating the internet yet? Here it is in case you missed it:

Featured by @Dominomag design by artist Carlos Amorales, photo by Isabella Magnani

Hubby thinks my take on the black butterfly thing is morbid and maybe so, but I love that I haven’t seen it in past years and that it’s a slight spin on Carlos’ butterfly display! Get it? Spin, web, 🕷

Where does one get black butterflies, you ask? At the Dollar Tree! They come in packs of 2 and are… a dollar each! 🤪 I got 6 packs of butterflies and one pack of fake spider web.

The webs were smaller than I had hoped, but there were a lot in the package so I used the clips on the butterflies to piece them together.

I used some sewing pins I had on hand to stick into the wall because I didn’t want to make visible holes in our wallpaper and because I wanted to be able to clip the butterflies onto the pins.

If you use pins too, be very careful to stick them into the wall far enough that they can’t fall out. Be especially careful if you have kids or pets!

Steps to get this look:

  1. Pin up the spider web(s)
  2. Make sure all pins are in the wall securely
  3. Clip or stick on butterflies
  4. Adjust the web as needed
  5. Snap and share with #ClassyArtistHome!

Butterflies: Dollar Tree (not online) / Amazon

Spiderweb: Dollar Tree (not online) / Amazon

The Dollar Tree webs also come with spider rings that you can optionally also add in. I decided to use them with some of the extra web and put them on the laundry room door, dining room mirror, and a plant.

My 3-year-old loves it when I scream and “pretend” to be afraid of spiders so I usually scream when I walk past the webs with him and then he says, “it’s ok mama, see? It’s just an itsy bitsy spider!” Then today when he got home from school I forgot to scream and he looked at me with a big smile, pointed, and said, “Hey– Mama! Look… it’s a spider!!!!!”

Of course, I screamed bloody murder so he could comfort me. “It’s ok mama. I don’t know why you’re so afraid of spiders.”

I do it all for you, son. 😉
