fash forward in 1894

I recently ran across this painting. Sure, I had seen it before, but this time I was more interested in what I saw.

This Renoir paintingย from 1894 shows a young woman combing her hair in an outfit that seems so “now.” And I thought it was funny how everything ends up back in style at one point or another. Even if it is 120 years later.ย
ย I just hope bustles never come back in! ๐Ÿ˜
Hope you enjoy this wonderful, sunshiny day!ย

off the record & the shoulder

Being a person who loves to look nice has its ups and downs. And sometimes the benefits don’t outweigh the negative aspects. But sometimes they do. ย ย ย
Top: Khol’s off-the-shoulderย (I got it in white)…&ย here’s another option that is adorable and it even has tassels (!!!)|| Bottom: American Eagleย (always my go-to because they are an inexpensive, long option) ||Bag: (old) Dooney & Bourke– similar style here and here. ||Shoes: similar sandal hereย orย here.
Like my art room? Beckett let me choose the decor and I think he was a bit scared when I wanted a lambswool rug to cover my drafting chair, but I think it works nicely! Plus, it helps my bum not to hurt ๐Ÿ˜ (sorry for giving you tmi).
About my creative process: It sounds really weird, but… I am really only able to be creative when I feel good about how I look. I think it is partly a procrastination thing though, but it is still something I have learned about myself over the years.ย
ย So whether I am running errands โฌ†๏ธ Or just painting, I usually at least put on makeup and do my hair– even if I’m still in yoga pants and a tee. In college I used to put on lipstick before I studied for tests… Lol… There has to be something wrong with that! ๐Ÿ˜‹
Oh, also, idk if you can see this hair clip in the other pictures, but…
ย …it was actually an old brooch that i found in an antique store this past weekend! I literally just pinned it into my hair with bobby pins (not the pin itself). I thought about super gluing a bobby pin into the brooch itself, but I realized we’re out of super glue.๐Ÿ˜ข maybe I will show you how I end up Turing the brooch into a full-fledged hair clip later! Until then!ย

Monday Must-Havesย

After a weekend of some much needed r&r we are back home. I am still so tired that after working out this morning, I have hardly moved off the couch. Ask my husband, it’s true.
Hat:  DKNY|Top: DKNY (on major sale now, plus an additional 20% off with code SALE20)| Bottom: Current/Elliot |Shoes: Christian Louboutin|Bag: Prada|Sunnies: Ray-Ban|Painting: Sold but similar here
After posting the adorable “city date” outfit I started wondering if that outfit could be done for way less. And it can… well basically!
Top: Forever 21 |Bottom: Zara|Sunnies: Cole Haan (a total steal)| Hat: Fedora | Shoes: Charles by Charles David (love this style right now), these rock-studded beauties for less, OR these RSVP lovelies
I wanted to throw together a look that I am really craving these days. And if I’m not going to get up and get ready for the day, I thought I would make an outfit collage for you! And as I found peices for this outfit, I was inspired by a painting that I did last year.
I want to go out on a fun date in the city lately and I feel that this is the perfect look for that.  Plus my birthday is coming up so it would be a great birthday look! (Hint, hint, honey– kidding) ๐Ÿ˜‹

Dressed up & Casual Party Looks for the Fourth
midi skirt
Similar items that I โค๏ธ: this Lord & Taylor tee  or this Express Amour tee| this {white} midi or this blue skirt๐Ÿ˜ ALSO this skirt would be so wonderful for a more casual date night or party|& check out these adorable (and comfortable) wedges! |the final part of the outfit might be the most important… earrings that look like firecrackers! These earrings are another pair that have some attitude and flair|
[ps–My apologies about our icky landscaping… We’re still in the process of designing our yard]
For my hair, I just did some classic curls with a curling wand and then I pinned it back with a bobby pin. Spray and go! I’m loving this look lately because it is so simple & sophisticated.  Plus, I saw in InStyle Magazine yesterday (in the August issue that I just got in the mail) and I felt so in style (lol) because I had already been doing this hairstyle for a few weeks. ๐Ÿ˜‹
I love the colors red white and blue and any excuse to wear them together is a good one.
Fun fact: seeing flags makes young people more patriotic! So fly those flags high!

Our puppy Kota wanted in on the photo action too!
A more casual look for the sequin shirt includes high waisted distressed denim shorts and red flats (in this case, polka dot Keds or  or even these Keds).
