Updated Art Listings + more!

Hello friends! There’s some new art up on the homepage and I’m especially excited about it! February is already halfway gone– how is that possible?! This month I am thankful for good health, lots of play time with the kids, and “us time” with the hubby!

I’m proud to say ClassyArtistBox.com has been growing like crazy since December!! If you aren’t familiar with what we’re doing over there, basically I started a monthly art box where I send out art supplies and a lesson each month! If you’re interested, we’d love to have you subscribe!

Here’s a preview of some of our projects coming out this March:

Pet Portraits: Art School Box | Abstract Painting: Preschool Box | Horses: Elementary Box | Portrait with Alcohol-Based Markers: Classic Box

The Rainbow Abstract and Groovy Giraffe (below) are both new! The Abstract is an actual painting that would be a gorgeous statement piece in your home and the giraffe is a first of its kind giraffe print. I only did print editions of the watercolor giraffe so I could manipulate the background and offer a few options with that so let me know what you think of the print-only art format below!

Outfit details from above: The headband is older so, unfortunately, not available anymore, but I found one that is cinched in the middle like it that would be perfect for anyone looking for a black and white headband! | Blazer is similar to this one from Nordstrom | Jeans are high-waisted from Loft and SO good! | Leopard top: similar from amazon!

5 of my favorite things *add to wishlist immediately*

1: Two Tone LEOPARD Teddy Sweater

I have been meaning to share this leopard teddy sweater with you all for so long, but the problem is that whenever I put it on we are either too busy to snap a picture or I feel so cozy I just want to nap!

The sweater is from Shein and you can either click on the links I made on the words or head to the Shein.com/us website and use the search ID  830253. Literally $15 + my discount and free shipping right now! How’s that for Black Friday Deals?!

Don’t forget that Shein is also offering my readers an exclusive discount: Q4TheClassy15 (Extra 15% off any purchase, valid from October 1st- December 31th, only US site: https://us.shein.com)

I was looking through my closet last night and realized that by now, most of the shirts I own are Shein brand because whenever I purge my closet, I keep my favorites!

It’s funny how that works. I used to have a bunch of designer sweaters + tops, but as I try to simplify I find myself keeping things I feel comfortable wearing. I tend to keep things that are comfortable, inexpensive, and chic.

2: Cool unique rings

This OBJEKTS store ring in white stone with gold is giving me all the feels this holiday season!

I have to admit though, the rainbow stone version is pretty rad too!

3: Personalized Tumblers

These Starbucks inspired coffee mugs from Etsy are so cute with the animal print! I looked specifically to see if someone made them with the tortoise shell print too, but no dice. I really like these though!

A few other coffee tumblers I like are: Anything from Apples Hugs & Coffee Mugs or this kind with a personalized name or slogan in a gold ring around the Starbucks logo. Full disclosure, the woman who owns Apples Hugs & Coffee Mugs is a teacher friend of mine and she does such a fantastic job! And if you can dream it, she can do it! She made a huge coffee cup for my husband last year and he LOVES it! Here it is below…

4: Real Art

Soooo this may seem like a shameless plug, and it kinda is, but I really think it’s important to give gifts around the holidays that are meaningful and personal. Buying real art is a great way to do that. In the past I’ve gone to Target or other big stores like that and bought paintings and pictures to decorate. Of course those places give lots of people jobs too, but none of those employees actually depend on you buying art to make ends meet each month. They didn’t make it. They don’t care. But actual artists– creative entrepreneurs tying to sell their work — care a ton!

You know you can find my work and custom orders on the homepage of this site, but I also wanted to include some other artists who are worth checking out. First is Clementine Sunshine, an old friend of mine who makes fantastically groovy art, cards, and now calendars! Another artist who is worth a peek if you like abstracted, beachy/pastel colored work is Tiel Duncan. And her prints are super affordable.

5: The gift of creativity

All the experts say that spending $$ on things don’t make us humans happy, but spending on experiences can. And we see this in our lives too. KonMarie showed us how to regain our joy and purge all of the excessive buildup that happens when we buy THINGS. At the same time, we also know that making art is totally therapeutic in this world of constant motion, it’s calming to sit down and create something.

I don’t know if you heard, but in April I created an art subscription box, Classy Artist Box, to help others prioritize artistic creativity. There are a few different box options for different age groups, a homeschool art curriculum, and a box option for adults. Originally it was only a subscription box– meaning you get boxes in the mail each month unless you cancel or pause your subscription. But recently I added a new option called ProjPacks that are a project you get as a one-time purchase. Each box comes with an exclusive online video lesson, written instructions, as well as all supplies needed to do the project (except water and a video viewing device). 😆

Here I am fulfilling some of our orders this month. It honestly brings me so much joy knowing I’m bringing art into the homes of so many lovely customers each month!

I’ll link our ProjPack video below too!

Anyway, I’ll stop rambling about it but I had to add it to my list of 5 things because I truly believe in this product and am so excited to share it!

snakeskin blazer & pushing forward in stress

About this Blazer:

Can you tell I’m a fan of snakeskin?! Yes, it’s trending right now, but I have to say I love it no matter what! I never met an animal print I didn’t like as long as it’s done in a classic way! and what is more classic than this $22 blazer?! (ps. if you can’t find the blazer with my link, use search ID 628289).

Use code SH4131 for %15 off, no limitation, valid until march 31st, 2019!

Shein has one of the best selections of animal print that I’ve ever seen and this blazer is just one of the many items I own and love of theirs! Yes, I agree that if you’re looking for classic pieces on their site, sometimes you have to wade through a slew of neon, barely-there “party dresses,” but I’ll tell you it’s worth it!

My favorite way to search is from their homepage and go to the dropdown titled “CLOTHING” and “Blouses.” Then select from the “elegant” or “preppy” categories, though the casual section hosts many great options as well.

I also like to browse their “casual,” “maxi,” and “elegant” dresses because they have great options for everything from hot summer days to fancy weddings.

Speaking of animal prints, my Leopard Print *actual art print* is just $20 over on my shop!

Life lately:

Have you missed me? Yes, I’ve been a bit MIA, but it’s because I’m constantly working on a secret project. So far, I will say that it’s honestly the biggest, most difficult, most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my entire life — other than motherhood. In my mind, I keep comparing the work I’m putting into it on the time and effort I spent on my Master’s degree, which scares me a little because that stress reminds me of grief.

If you knew me back when I lived in Sweden or afterward, you would know how important Sven was to me. He was an orange rag doll who behaved more like a dog than a cat, and I cared for him like a child. So when he suddenly passed away one Friday morning — in the midst of all of the work, writing, teaching, and research — I grieved very hard.

So now when I have times of intense stress, sometimes my mind reacts by feeling like it should go into grief or survival mode. Instead of focusing on the next steps I need to take, sometimes I start worrying about the what ifs and the future. I’m no psychologist, but I know that’s unhealthy and unbiblical. God’s Word tells us to not worry about anything… to not worry about things because God loves us even more than we imagine and He’s like a Father who wants us to run to Him so He can protect and teach us.

It’s a conscious decision for me to focus on my tasks at hand instead of worry, but I know it’s the right decision.

What makes you worry? How do you actively work to combat those negative thoughts and press on toward your goal?

just add lace

Right before Christmas I posted about a to-die-for white polkadot top that was just $17 and a berry colored blouse that again was super inexpensive, at $15! They are still available and I love that the berry blouse comes in 3 different colors!

Now about this outfit:

This top is $14, basically $11 with my latest sale code you can use for 15% off of your entire purchase at Shein! The code is: Q1ClassyArtist15
and it’s good till March 31st, 2019!

What I love most about this sweater is the cozy fabric and fit, but I didn’t know that when I ordered it… I ordered it for the lace 😉 haha

The other thing I love about this sweater is that it comes in 17 colors (my faves other than brown/orange: mauve, green, and gray)!!! Did you read that?! SEVENTEEN colors!!!!!

New Year’s Talk:

This past year was a little crazy for our family. I feel like all of you can likely relate, but I’m not ready to delve into the gritty details publicly. We had a lot of ups and downs in so many ways, but overall we are super thankful for God’s grace and provision.

Our highlights for 2018 are that we grew a lot as a couple; we gave birth to our healthy baby girl, Wellesley, in September; Wolfgang was given clean bill of health after we got a little nervous over a growth on his collar bone. I have loved being home with the kids again… and am proud of the artwork I made as my side hustle as a result of being home. I’m especially psyched to be able to now sell my artwork from this website!!!!

We look forward to 2019 as being a year full of exciting career opportunities, artistic expression, learning, and growth in all areas. It’s no secret to those around us that Beckett and I are creative types who strongly desire to use our gifts in new ways in the future. Please pray along with us for our success as we continue toward our professional and personal goals this year.

If you have thought of purchasing some sort of artwork either from my shop or somewhere else, I encourage you to email me at theclassyartist@gmail.com and I would love to work with you on whatever you need and within your budget! I do realistic, abstract, portraits, pet portraits, landscapes, nursery art, and anything else you would like!
