Mixed prints for spring

Top of the day to you! 😁

Today I wanted to share my favorite spring outfit that takes me through these crazy fluctuations in Minnesota weather! Next I have been dying to tell anyone who will listen about our double stroller because we’ve had it a few months now and still absolutely love it! Finally, I wanted to give a bit of a life update to tell you a few things you didn’t know about us lately.

First, my long leopard cardigan sweater and buffalo check tee are both from Shein. The buffalo check top is literally under $6 now and it’s probably my most worn top and I highly recommend it. I think mine is a size medium. They were gifted to me by the company awhile back and I still wear them all the time! I think the top is a few years old now! The denim shorts are from the Universal Thread line at Target and they work so well for me and my after baby body. I feel like they are long enough and fit the right way to hide some of my baby weight, yuh know?

Our stroller is the Joovy Caboose Too Ultralight and it is the best inexpensive double stroller ever! It’s sturdy, relatively light, folds up well, and has a cup holder! Plus, one of the biggest things about it for me was that it can hold a lot of weight so I don’t have to buy a new stroller as the kids get bigger. Oh, and the wheels work SUPER WELL, which was not our experience with our more expensive single stroller!

In other news, have you heard about our new business venture over here?! It’s an art subscription box called Classy Artist Box! Each month we send out supplies and access to a video lesson on our new site! This was our first month and I feel such a frenzy of nervously working out a few last minute kinks. BUT it’s so exciting to be able to do what I love and pass that joy to people around the country!

Today is an exciting day for us because in a little while we are launching our little kids boxes with options for preschoolers and elementary age kids! More on that soon, but for now here’s a link to our shop!

I love the kids boxes because it’s such a great way to spend time with your little ones in a way that you both can enjoy. Plus I’ve done all the shopping and creativity for you so you don’t have to come up with it all on your own!

Now I’m gonna go and start making the kids examples for our June boxes!! We are starting with fish related projects and I’m so excited to make them with Wolfie (who turns 3 this week)!!!!

Halloween Sugar Cookies for the Neighbors (Using the best recipe ever!)

halloween cookiesHi guys! I’m just over here making some yummy sugar cookies for the hood and I thought I would share the recipe because it’s legitimately the best and easiest recipe I’ve ever used!

Sugar Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all purpose flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Combine soft butter and sugar in mixer until smooth
  3. Add vanilla extract and egg to the butter/sugar mixture
  4. add baking powder and salt. Mix and scrape sides of bowl with spatula to make sure it’s evenly combined.
  5. Slowly add 3 cups of flour, scraping down sides of bowl periodically to make sure it’s all combined.
  6. Remove dough from the mixer and separate it into workable sized chunks.
  7. Sprinkle flour over your clean work surface and roll out dough.
  8. Cut cookies, add to pan, and bake in the preheated oven for 6-7 minutes. They will continue baking on the pan so don’t leave them in much longer than 7 minutes!
  9. Let cool, then decorate!

Here is a link to the dough recipe… I made a few slight changes (mostly in how to combine the dry ingredients) it is so good and the shape stays well.

frosting recipe

(so basic, but works!)

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 4 tsp of milk

Directions:

  1. Mix together with a whisk and add food coloring as desired! add more milk if you want it more liquid-y and add more powdered sugar if you want it stiffer.
  2. Add food coloring as needed.
  3. For solid color areas, spoon and spread the frosting on the cookie.
  4. for details, use stiffer frosting (add more powdered sugar) and pipe the frosting onto the cookies.

This doesn’t make tons of frosting so you may need to make a few batches, which is fine especially if you will need a few different colors. I made 2 batches and turned my orange into brown for the pumpkin stem, then I used another batch and left some plain white to pipe out the skeleton, after that I added blue to do the bats, and then added yellow to my blue leftovers to make the green.

Beginner tips

make a few batches, add food coloring, and decorate quickly so the frosting doesn’t dry out
To make very basically decorated cookies a little cuter, make sure to add more than one color or add edible embellishments like the eyes I used!

I’m really excited to bring these to the neighbors with some cute cards tomorrow because we usually don’t do anything like this, but we have been learning lately how important it is to be good neighbors. Jesus even says we need to be so I guess we can’t argue with that!

3 hair products worth bringing into the woods

hair products.jpg
Hello, hello!
This week we were at a cabin in the woods with Beckett’s family and I tried to pack light. You know I didn’t actually succeed according to some people’s standards, but I did well for me. What I mean is that I couldn’t bring every modern amenity to the woods with me that I have at home so I had to decide, what do I really need to maintain my regular beauty routine? Thus, the following is what I brought for my hair (other than a pin & bristle hairbrush that smooths and detangles and my bfb extensions).
Dry shampoo is definitely a must for me because I put it on at the beginning of the day even with fresh hair to create some root volume and to texturize my hair. It also prevents hair from looking oily throughout the day. If your hair is as fine as mine and your skin as oily, you def. need to try this OGX Refresh & Restore Coconut Oil Dry Shampoo before styling! I went through 2 bottles of this in the past 3 months and love it, but if you would like a less expensive alternative, the other drugstore dry shampoo brand that I recommend is the Volume and Fullness by Dove. it works well and is less expensive than the OGX brand (but not as good smelling. Sorry Dove, I still love you!!!).
The curling iron is a bigger barrel curling iron– Conair Pro 1.5″ (mine is from Sally Beauty). I like using this one because it gives my hair lots of volume whether I’m wearing my extensions or not. Otherwise, for more defined curls on my regular length of hair, I use a 1″ wand like this one by Conair too.
Before curling my hair, and again once I’m done, I use Pantene flex hold (2) hairspray on the ends to keep my hair in place, but still maintain movement.
Have you tried any of these products?! If so, let me know how you think they compare to other brands or products you’ve tried!

bumpdate and why I didn't shop the NSale

casual outfit of the day with flowers blogger tory burch sandals.jpg
Hello friends! It’s only Tuesday, but but feels like the weekend should be here soon already. These pictures were from my birthday on Saturday. I kept things casual during the day because my birthday request was that we clean our house 😛
Sunday started with a horrible migraine and bad back pain, which just got worse during church so I had to sit the entire time and I always feel awkward about that. Thank God for Beckett being such a good, fun dad who was 100% willing to step in and play with Wolfgang all day.
Again, the migraine was there Monday morning so I spent the morning in bed, but needed to send out a couple of paintings so I got up at noon to shower & get ready so I could run some errands and go to the post office.
After getting out of the shower, I slipped and fell right on my behind.
I ended up calling my Dr. to see what she thought I should do and she wanted me to come in and see her. After seeing the doctor and having her record some “agitation” in my uterus, she sent us to the hospital where I kept having pretty severe pain in my lower abdomen/uterus. They kept me overnight to check on the baby. I really wanted to go home, but was glad that they were cautious and wanted to check the baby.
They let us go home this morning around 7:30 and just want me to call if I have that severe horrible pain again (it felt like a really bad contraction or menstrual cramp, but extra painful).
I guess the Dr. was worried that the placenta was separating from the wall of the uterus. After an ultrasound and all-night heart rate monitoring of the baby, they think everything is ok. Baby and I now are supposed to keep resting for awhile.

Like I said, we cleaned on my birthday, but we also made it to Nordstrom to check out the infamous Nsale and that was when I snagged these Tory Burch sandals (above) as a birthday gift from my honey to me! In all of the #nsale madness, the sandals were not on sale. So why did I do that?

Top 3 reasons I didn’t shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale:

  1. We don’t need another credit card right now. We like the points we earn with our current card and I had a few different cards before, but I just didn’t use them often enough to want to keep monitoring them.
  2. There are so many cute fall items on sale right now, but being due in the fall, I don’t want to buy anything until I know what size I’ll be come October.
  3. I’ve always REALLY wanted a pair of these sandals so instead of buying other shoes just cause they were on sale, I asked Beckett for these because would have still wanted these As a side note, if you’re pregnant and/or have vein problems on your feet, these sandals are great for you too because the logo covers the veins! haha

At the bottom of this post, I’ll link some clothing pieces I would have gotten if I weren’t pregnant… YOU CAN SHOP THE SALE WITHOUT THE CARD STARTING ON FRIDAY, JULY 20!

Mr. photographer always likes to show me poses he wants me to do so I finally grabbed the camera and took his picture. lol.
