Science Museum Trip Takeaway: have fun, but watch your kids!

IMG_0136
Last week was our spring break so, being the party animals we are, we went to the Science Museum of Minnesota!!! I promised someone I would see how much admission is so I’ll tell you too: it was about $30 for our family to get in (under 3 is free).
Wolfie napped all the way there and was a little cranky at first because he didn’t get to sleep as much as normal. While we walked around, W. was moderately interested in the dinosaurs and various exhibits with lights and models, but he was upset he couldn’t touch everything. Beckett and I really enjoyed looking at everything and reading labels.
When we were almost done looking at everything we found the cardboard room and it was love at first sight!!!!
IMG_0142
The whole room was full of boxes, half-made forts, tape, scissors, markers, and all sorts of “treasures.” The whole scene kinda reminded me of the good old ball pits at McDonalds. What could be better to an almost-2-year-old!?!
We never exactly figured out why the box room existed, but I’m sure it has something to do with showing kids they can have fun and be imaginative, even if they aren’t glued to an iPad all day. A good lesson for us all.

I had recently taught W. how to use some kids scissors so he was extra happy to find a pair of scissors on the floor of the room (not pictured). Of course, being the the mean mom I am, I immediately took them away because they were practically the Dial M for Murder kind.
At least there was plenty of tape to distract him!IMG_0146
As W. and B. were having the time of their lives, I was nervously noticing how easy it would be to lose track of a kid in that room! The scattered boxes were really quite disorientating! After all, the first kid we encountered upon entry was a lost toddler crying for his mom by the door. Being the concerned person I am, I started helping him look for her. She finally emerged from behind a pillar/a pile of boxes.
All I could think of was that if I were a bad guy I could have taken that kid easily. I was glad to see the mom come get him and keep him close after that.
We had fun putting W’s initials on the wall: WDW (pictured below) and Wolfie got in a fort and crawled around till he found tons of “treasures” in the form of crayons and one bandaid (eww, right?! But his excited face was adorable).
Then things got a little weird…IMG_0152
At the same time B. was trying to take pictures of W. and me, I was still eyeing the creepy guy who had been taking pictures and videos of little girls on his phone. He looked to be in his 60s and seemed to be alone… and he was taking pictures of little girls. It was so odd. Not just because he seemed to be alone and taking pictures of other people’s kids, but also because he seemed to be trying to sneak them in quickly.
I kept trying to figure out if he was with someone in the room, but something about the way he kept moving around and reading signs in between creeping over and taking pictures of kids made me suspicious.
Finally the old guy tried to get MY son in a picture too and that threw my mom instincts into full force. I could have basically been in an exhibit as an angry mama bear about to attack. My mind was racing, trying to decide whether it would be better to confront the guy or run and get security.
I first tried to position myself in a way that would hide little W.’s face behind me and Beckett so the guy couldn’t get a good picture. To further complicate the situation, Beckett had been playing with W the whole time and didn’t realize the guy was trying to get W’s picture. I felt like I couldn’t tell Beckett why I was hiding W. because the guy was so close he would have heard me! It made me feel so helpless and frantic trying to figure out what to do.
Then the creepy guy then moved onto photographing some nearby girls playing on the floor who looked to be 7 or 8 years old. Trying to alert the girls’ moms, I ended up making weird faces and gestures to some ladies sitting talking nearby, assuming they were the girls’ moms. The moms made some faces and subtle gestures back at me and I wondered if they thought I was actually the creepy one in this situation or if they were trying to tell me they knew.
As soon as I told B what was happening, we packed up to leave the room. As we made our hasty exit, we encountered three museum workers running toward the room, walkie talkies out, and ponytails swooshing. I was glad to see that someone else must have noticed the unwanted paparazzi.
I wish I knew what happened for sure, but I felt pretty satisfied knowing the museum workers were in there and could monitor what was happening.
Green Sweater Science Museum
I told you that odd little story to warn you moms and future moms to watch your kiddos. Have fun, go to the zoo, the museum, the park, but remember to watch your kids closely, even if you feel 100% safe and familiar there.
And if you think someone is taking pictures of your kids or following weirdly, notify security or the police. It’s ok to be a mama bear. You absolutely cannot be too cautious these days!

My Outfit:

green sweater (H&M) — I got so many questions about this just walking around at the museum! It’s seriously so cozy and such a gorgeous color– my favorite! | Hi-Rise Jeggings (AE) | Platform Espadrilles (Sam Edelman)– pictured here

Beckett’s Outfit:

Jacket (similar) | Sweater (similar) | New shoes I just got him (not pictured) | jeans — but our favorite jeans for him are now Joes Jeans that we snagged at Nordstrom Rack, linked here! He likes them because they are super comfy and I like them because they show off his long legs and have a really clean look!

Wolfie’s Outfit:

Reversible matching pirate setshirt and pants— ( Mini Boden at Nordstrom); they also have a few other sets with patterns like sharks with red stripes!| Rhino shoes (Target)
I love putting Wolfie in these reversible sweats these days! Mostly because he seems so comfy in them, but also partly because it cuts down on the amount of clothes needed. It looks like a totally different outfit when reversed and I can also mix it up and reverse just the pants or just the top! Thank you, geniuses over at Mini Boden, for creating such useful clothes!

We are still all mourning the loss of my grandma, but like I said in my previous post, it is comforting to know where she is now. I want to thank those of you who have written, messaged, commented, or texted to share your condolences. The family appreciates it greatly.
I don’t want to wallow in my grief on here. I hope that my grandma’s life can be a great example and reminder to us that life is short and what truly matters is how we live our lives, not what we wear.
So many fashion blogs exist today with the sole purpose of trying to make you feel like you need the newest and greatest of whatever the blogger was just given by a brand. And don’t get me wrong, I love writing about clothes I find, good deals, and the latest trends, but I don’t want this to be a place like the rest of them. I haven’t wanted it to be like that ever, but sometimes it’s easier to stay on the surface level and forget our real passions. My goal is to create a space that is uplifting, inspiring, and educational. Not to make you feel like you NEED something new all the time.
That being said, if you are looking for some spring clothes, I’ve still got you covered. God made me with an artist’s heart so I love looking for beauty in many forms and sharing it with people. So as long as I keep enjoying showing you the things that catch my eye, I’ll keep telling you about them. 🙂

The Dress:  I almost don’t want to tell you how inexpensive this green floral dress is because I don’t want you to think it’s not good… but I kinda have to tell you because this is a sponsored post. Ok, here goes… it’s $12. Can you believe it? I love the material, the fit, and the quality seems good too. It also comes in navy with pink flowers and powder blue with white flowers. I sized up to a large because I wanted a loose fit and for it to be long enough (I’m around 5’10”).
The dress is a little particular in my opinion because the material is delicate so I plan to wash it with my other delicate pieces and hang it to dry (we hang most of our clothes anyway). And the only thing I would change about this dress is that I wish it were lined. It’s a relatively easy problem to solve, but I still like it when semi-transparent things come with liners. With pants I wore my black tank top under to hide my bra and when I wear it as a dress I have a dress liner that I can use.
But I adore this dress. I called this post “Spring into Summer Dress” because I think it’s great with jeans now and it will be great with bare legs this summer! It’s one of my most favorite things I’ve ever bought and I can’t wait to wear it to work one of these days soon!

Pants:  These are my ever-favorite American Eagle high-rise jeggings (rly cheap) in the dark wash. I wear them constantly and only switch them out when I need to wash them. I wish I were kidding about that. I’ve 100% never found a pair of jeans I like better, not even any expensive designer brands! When I buy these I buy a size down from my usual because I like how they stretch, but I keep thinking I should try on a bigger size and see if I like that too. They have so much stretch that I think a 4 would be just fine, but my original reason for sizing down was that 1) they might stretch out and 2) if I fit into a smaller size I may as well wear that.
Shoes:  These shoes were something I bought last summer on sale and I wore them right up until it started snowing. I like the color because it works with outfits in any season, especially summer and fall. I found them in some different colors. The dusty rose regular priced, but the blush is on sale!

Bag:  This Michael Kors handbag is my favorite color so Beckett may have practically talked me into getting it. Of course I wanted it, but I thought the color may be too bold so I was slightly hesitant. It also comes in a gorgeous pink, blue, black, and red. If you’re interested in this bag or this bag in another color, I will link the colors available online here, but I encourage you to go find your nearest MK outlet store because we got mine for about 80% off retail! Sadly, you can’t find that online.

My Top 2 Places to Shop for Wallpaper and My Favorite Patterns

Wallpaper under $35Happy Thursday night! I am sitting here doing two of my favorite things, looking at wallpaper and listening to Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger podcast! But I also can’t believe I’m still awake because I haven’t gone to bed later than 8:30 in about a month :/
If you’ve seen any of my posts about my house, you may know I LOVE a good wallpaper. Typically I love damask patterns (with a metallic shimmer) because they are so classic, but lately I’ve been looking for something a little more botanical so that an accent wall I want to design doesn’t clash with my current damask that’s over my fireplace. And even if the patterns don’t clash, I feel like 2 damask patterns would be too regal and old looking.
There are 2 main places that  I found these GREAT, INEXPENSIVE wallpaper options. 1) is Wallpaper Warehouse and 2) Steve’s Blinds and Wallpaper.

Below are the links to the patterns I picked out above, but be sure to check out their websites because they have SO SO many other incredible options!

This pattern comes with a few different color options so be sure to check them out too!

This gorgeous regal floral wallpaper would look great in a powder room, add color by painting a console or side table!

This is one of my favorite wallpapers of all time. We almost used this exact pattern in our old master bathroom, but Beckett wasn’t 100% sold on it so we went with something else.

Geometric pattern that looks classic. It said this is metallic, but I’m not 100% sure without first ordering a sample.

I want this in my dining room. It also comes in other colors!

White blouse: Romwe in a size mediumIMG_9992cutie wolfieIMG_9989IMG_9983

Wolfie was eating a cookie and couldn’t be bothered to look up 🙂

Guys, I have to show you this blouse from Romwe! I wore it last week and I just think every girl needs a pretty white blouse! Plus, you know I love a good deal so it is fitting that this top is only $15! There are also other discounts happening on their site like 90% off some items and money back if you spend $49+.

My bag is vintage, similar here from Versatile Collective. It has a sku and the seller says it’s in very good condition. $577 – also read details and decide on your own if you think it’s a good, authentic buy.
My coat is from Via Spiga. Beckett got it for me a few Christmases ago and I still plan to wear it well into the future. The same brand has a slight variation on the coat again this year and I think it looks adorable. It’s also a little less puffy looking than mine, which may be appealing if you don’t like looking like a giant furball.

In other news, has anyone else been fighting off icky sicknesses this past week? These pictures have been a long time coming because I’ve barely gotten myself out of bed and to work this past week and this week. The only reason I’m able to do this post right now is because I randomly woke up at 3:30AM from a bad dream and then I was too sad/scared to fall asleep again right away.

Does anyone else have nightmares regularly? I do. And sometimes they’re so real feeling when I wake up that I can’t sleep again or I am angry at people in my life who were in the nightmare. It’s really weird. For instance, the whole week before Beckett and I got married, I dreamt that my mom purposefully stole the spotlight at my wedding. Needless to say I didn’t feel happy about how I was being treated in my nightmare, but I tried to hide my feelings from my mom because I knew the thoughts were irrational. Funny how that works.

Then last week Beckett and I both had really similar nightmares. I typed it all out in details for you to read, but then deleted it because I felt like I was sharing more than I wanted to with strangers.

Why did we both have similar nightmares? Sometimes I see that my dreams are linked to a show we’re watching or a book I’m reading, but that wasn’t the case this time. So I feel like we ate something weird and that’s why we both had similar scary dreams, but maybe it’s actually God’s way of telling us something.

Do you think dreams mean something?

Kellie
