My Husband’s Birthday Surprise!

Beckett always thinks of the nicest birthday ideas for me so this year I wanted to finally do something special for his birthday. One year for my birthday we stayed in my favorite Stillwater (MN) hotel, the Lowell Inn. That was the most special birthday I’ve ever had. So for his big day I thought it would be fun to go somewhere, just the two of us.

I had a few staycation locations in mind, but ended up settling on Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis because it is close to where we live and it has a spa…. Lord knows the both of us needed a trip to the spa!
The picture above shows us right before our massages. Those robes were cuddly!
After the massage and a short time in the spa pool we headed down to the hotel restaurant for some food.

Monello is the beautifully designed hotel restaurant.

The food there was really good and the atmosphere was seriously gorgeous! My only complaint was that we felt the waitress was mildly rude. Here’s why: I ordered a latte she brought me a decaf latte and told me I ordered it. I was really tired that day and ordered the latte FOR THE CAFFEINE and both Beckett and I knew I hadn’t said the “d” word (decaf) since I was pregnant. Let’s be honest.
When I told her I didn’t order decaf and that I would like regular she just stood there for like 30 seconds and then told me I said, “decaf.”
I tell you, I needed that caffeine, so I was about to have her go make me a new one when Beckett stepped in and told me I could have his regular latte and he would drink the decaf one.
I absolutely hate to make a scene over a food order, but I was mainly annoyed because she kept telling me that I said something we knew I didn’t say… and then to make it worse she didn’t want to bring me what I actually wanted/what I ordered.
Wow, on second thought you may not want to go to Monello if you like caffeine!
We didn’t let the latte incident ruin our dinner or evening though! the next day we were refreshed and ready to get on with a few errands before going to pick Wolfie up from his grandma’s house. Below is a view from our hotel room. But first we needed breakfast with lots of coffee! And not the decaf kind.
We decided to get our fix at Mickey’s Diner in St Paul. They kept the coffee comin’ and the food was greasy.
It ended up being a fun adventure for us and in the end it’s not about the coffee you drink it’s about who you drink it with.

what 2018 will hold…

workout clothes Romwe windbreaker jacket 1990s style

Jacket: Romwe (I’m usually a size S or M so I ordered a M… wish I would have sized up to a L because my arms are long, but I love the colors and everything otherwise!)| Leggings: similar from Athleta | workout tank: Hapari (I really like how it fits so I wear it a ton) | Choker: similar by BaubleBar (from my sis in law!)

We are a few days into the new year and it’s time to reflect on the past and consider the future.
My resolutions are usually the same each year, which leads me to feeling like a hamster on a wheel. I start the year off strong and start seeing results from my working out and then something happens to disrupt my schedule (like moving) and I fall back into my old habits. So this year I think I will give myself just one goal. And that is to create balance in my life.

lol, our faces!

how i plan to make 2018 balanced:

This year I will try to spend more quality time with my family, have  a regular quiet time with God, work out, eat healthy, create art daily, post regularly on my blog, and manage our finances better. But at the end of the day I don’t want to feel like a failure if I don’t do all of those things in one day. I think it will help me to create a schedule, but I know that my days rarely go as planned so we will see how well I do this year.

As always one of my goals is to work out, hence, the outfit above. I have already done pretty well… especially since getting this windbreaker from Romwe! New workout clothes is the best motivation for me!
I had a long post written out about all of my personal goals for 2018, but I didn’t want to bore you with a list of things I’m thankful for and areas in which I struggle. But instead I want to hear from you. How do you get motivated to get things done and create a better life for yourself? What motivates you?

camel stripes

Merry Day after Christmas!
We had a good time visiting my family this week and enjoyed getting to see some of the cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents who we don’t get to see regularly. I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating and that you are filled with hope and joy as we get closer to the new year.I absolutely had to share this outfit idea because stripes and leopard are my favorite patterns of all time. So I naturally think this is a shareable outfit!
I also needed to share the outfit because I’m collaborating with Romwe again on this! I’m honestly obsessed with their stuff! Especially their selection of classic pieces, which if you have spent any time on their website you know they carry a lot of trendy stuff too, but I’m never disappointed by their selection of classy clothes too.
Anyway, back to the sweater topic: I love this particular sweater because it’s a camel/caramel color with ivory stripes… acombo will never go out of style.if you’re in the market for a sweater like this, you should also know that this is a one sise fits all sweater, meaning it will fit different people differently. I am 5’9″ and weigh about 140 lbs right now. So it fits normal on me, but if you’re smaller it may look oversized or vice versa. my jacket is from two Christmases ago and I’m still loving it! It’s Via Spagia, but I found a similarly lovely one by Cupcakes and Cashmere that I’ll link here in case you’re interested! My scarf is Burberry, bag is Kate Spade (a favorite of mine), and my jeggings are American Eagle— as always!
We took these pictures on the same day as I took the above photo, so I thought I’d share my makeup look with you too! I did a little bronzer on my cheeks and then added it to my eyes like eyeshadow. I kinda liked the look so I wanted to show you!
I also added a nude lip from the Maybeline super stay line and it looked complete! I gotta say, I love that super stay matte lipstick. It seriously stays on all day and doesn’t get weird (bumpy) unless my lips are dry and cracking. Otherwise it stays on super well and I don’t need to reapply until the evening.
