How soon is too soon?

Team Thanksgiving or Team Christmas?

I’m sure you’ve noticed that you can find an article to confirm anything you want on the internet: aliens are real, chocolate is good for you, coffee is bad for you or really good for you… it’s all there. And now research shows people who decorate for Christmas early (before thanksgiving) are happier. Yes, folks, it’s all there, written by an expert! What do you think of all of this? Tell us below!

Wellesley and I got a few things out today, but nothing spectacular. I’m not sure how in-depth our decor will be this year. Last year we put out every decoration we had right after Halloween and I was sick of all of the clutter before Christmas Eve! I almost felt guilty being so excited to put it all away because I knew the kids & Beckett were loving it all still.

The Christmas Painting:

The Christmas print is one I painted of a car and a Christmas tree a few years ago. I love it because it has silver accents and it’s perfect classic addition to your Christmas decor!

You can shop this super affordable work of art with this link or by clicking on the shopping bag at the top of this website and scrolling down to it.

The Plaid Boyfriend Shirt:

My patch tartan boyfriend shirt (search #: 603411) is from Shein, you guessed it, Shein! I’m wearing a size medium. It’s sleeves are a little on the short side for me so I tend to roll them up, but I’m pretty tall (5’10”) so I think they should fit most people in length.

If you are looking for any holiday clothes or just an update to your closet, Shein has great options at AMAZING price points. Example, this top was $15! Plus my 15% off code: Q4TheClassy15 makes shopping even better! Valid through Dec 31st 2019!

So how soon is too soon to decorate for Christmas? I think we are all big girls and can make that decision for ourselves, but I have to say, a little reminder that Jesus came & holiday cheer never hurt anyone!

Wolfie:

Also, a special thank you to those of you who have been praying for Wolfie. I’ve heard from a few of you and we appreciate your continued prayers as we continue to monitor and make sure he’s ok! We are a lot more confident right now that he is fine, but it’s still one of those things in the back of our minds. Your prayers mean the world to us.

Speaking of Wolfie: spider-man (aka Beckett) came for a visit and Wolfie was so excited! The boys have been watching the 60s original spider-man cartoons lately and wolfie is obsessed!

Beckett had this spider-man suit custom made back when he was in college & we were dating. Not entirely sure why, but I think it has something to do with him buying an auction of over 10,000 comic books on eBay because it was “a good deal.” 😅😅😅😅 He would wear the suit while trying to sell the comics by the curb once school got out! 😆 #welaughnow Somehow he actually sold most of them, but we still have a half a dozen boxes that follow us like a puppy wherever we go. ðŸĪŠ

If you or someone you know likes comics, please email TheClassyArtist@gmail.com and I’ll give you a deal! Just don’t tell Beckett ðŸĪĢ

Honey, if you’re reading this, I’m kidding about selling your comics. Or am I?

$7 Halloween Mantle Decor

Painting is our family painting we did when Wolfie turned 1

Hello there, happy October!

We have been looking forward to decorating for Fall/Halloween for months so when October 1st hit, we knew it was the day!

Now onto the good stuff! Have you seen the black butterfly Halloween decor picture circulating the internet yet? Here it is in case you missed it:

Featured by @Dominomag design by artist Carlos Amorales, photo by Isabella Magnani

Hubby thinks my take on the black butterfly thing is morbid and maybe so, but I love that I haven’t seen it in past years and that it’s a slight spin on Carlos’ butterfly display! Get it? Spin, web, 🕷

Where does one get black butterflies, you ask? At the Dollar Tree! They come in packs of 2 and are… a dollar each! ðŸĪŠ I got 6 packs of butterflies and one pack of fake spider web.

The webs were smaller than I had hoped, but there were a lot in the package so I used the clips on the butterflies to piece them together.

I used some sewing pins I had on hand to stick into the wall because I didn’t want to make visible holes in our wallpaper and because I wanted to be able to clip the butterflies onto the pins.

If you use pins too, be very careful to stick them into the wall far enough that they can’t fall out. Be especially careful if you have kids or pets!

Steps to get this look:

  1. Pin up the spider web(s)
  2. Make sure all pins are in the wall securely
  3. Clip or stick on butterflies
  4. Adjust the web as needed
  5. Snap and share with #ClassyArtistHome!

Butterflies: Dollar Tree (not online) / Amazon

Spiderweb: Dollar Tree (not online) / Amazon

The Dollar Tree webs also come with spider rings that you can optionally also add in. I decided to use them with some of the extra web and put them on the laundry room door, dining room mirror, and a plant.

My 3-year-old loves it when I scream and “pretend” to be afraid of spiders so I usually scream when I walk past the webs with him and then he says, “it’s ok mama, see? It’s just an itsy bitsy spider!” Then today when he got home from school I forgot to scream and he looked at me with a big smile, pointed, and said, “Hey– Mama! Look… it’s a spider!!!!!”

Of course, I screamed bloody murder so he could comfort me. “It’s ok mama. I don’t know why you’re so afraid of spiders.”

I do it all for you, son. 😉

Kellie

Mixed prints for spring

Top of the day to you! 😁

Today I wanted to share my favorite spring outfit that takes me through these crazy fluctuations in Minnesota weather! Next I have been dying to tell anyone who will listen about our double stroller because we’ve had it a few months now and still absolutely love it! Finally, I wanted to give a bit of a life update to tell you a few things you didn’t know about us lately.

First, my long leopard cardigan sweater and buffalo check tee are both from Shein. The buffalo check top is literally under $6 now and it’s probably my most worn top and I highly recommend it. I think mine is a size medium. They were gifted to me by the company awhile back and I still wear them all the time! I think the top is a few years old now! The denim shorts are from the Universal Thread line at Target and they work so well for me and my after baby body. I feel like they are long enough and fit the right way to hide some of my baby weight, yuh know?

Our stroller is the Joovy Caboose Too Ultralight and it is the best inexpensive double stroller ever! It’s sturdy, relatively light, folds up well, and has a cup holder! Plus, one of the biggest things about it for me was that it can hold a lot of weight so I don’t have to buy a new stroller as the kids get bigger. Oh, and the wheels work SUPER WELL, which was not our experience with our more expensive single stroller!

In other news, have you heard about our new business venture over here?! It’s an art subscription box called Classy Artist Box! Each month we send out supplies and access to a video lesson on our new site! This was our first month and I feel such a frenzy of nervously working out a few last minute kinks. BUT it’s so exciting to be able to do what I love and pass that joy to people around the country!

Today is an exciting day for us because in a little while we are launching our little kids boxes with options for preschoolers and elementary age kids! More on that soon, but for now here’s a link to our shop!

I love the kids boxes because it’s such a great way to spend time with your little ones in a way that you both can enjoy. Plus I’ve done all the shopping and creativity for you so you don’t have to come up with it all on your own!

Now I’m gonna go and start making the kids examples for our June boxes!! We are starting with fish related projects and I’m so excited to make them with Wolfie (who turns 3 this week)!!!!

Halloween Sugar Cookies for the Neighbors (Using the best recipe ever!)

halloween cookiesHi guys! I’m just over here making some yummy sugar cookies for the hood and I thought I would share the recipe because it’s legitimately the best and easiest recipe I’ve ever used!

Sugar Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all purpose flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Combine soft butter and sugar in mixer until smooth
  3. Add vanilla extract and egg to the butter/sugar mixture
  4. add baking powder and salt. Mix and scrape sides of bowl with spatula to make sure it’s evenly combined.
  5. Slowly add 3 cups of flour, scraping down sides of bowl periodically to make sure it’s all combined.
  6. Remove dough from the mixer and separate it into workable sized chunks.
  7. Sprinkle flour over your clean work surface and roll out dough.
  8. Cut cookies, add to pan, and bake in the preheated oven for 6-7 minutes. They will continue baking on the pan so don’t leave them in much longer than 7 minutes!
  9. Let cool, then decorate!

Here is a link to the dough recipe… I made a few slight changes (mostly in how to combine the dry ingredients) it is so good and the shape stays well.

frosting recipe

(so basic, but works!)

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 4 tsp of milk

Directions:

  1. Mix together with a whisk and add food coloring as desired! add more milk if you want it more liquid-y and add more powdered sugar if you want it stiffer.
  2. Add food coloring as needed.
  3. For solid color areas, spoon and spread the frosting on the cookie.
  4. for details, use stiffer frosting (add more powdered sugar) and pipe the frosting onto the cookies.

This doesn’t make tons of frosting so you may need to make a few batches, which is fine especially if you will need a few different colors. I made 2 batches and turned my orange into brown for the pumpkin stem, then I used another batch and left some plain white to pipe out the skeleton, after that I added blue to do the bats, and then added yellow to my blue leftovers to make the green.

Beginner tips

make a few batches, add food coloring, and decorate quickly so the frosting doesn’t dry out
To make very basically decorated cookies a little cuter, make sure to add more than one color or add edible embellishments like the eyes I used!

I’m really excited to bring these to the neighbors with some cute cards tomorrow because we usually don’t do anything like this, but we have been learning lately how important it is to be good neighbors. Jesus even says we need to be so I guess we can’t argue with that!
