Mixed prints for spring

Top of the day to you! 😁

Today I wanted to share my favorite spring outfit that takes me through these crazy fluctuations in Minnesota weather! Next I have been dying to tell anyone who will listen about our double stroller because we’ve had it a few months now and still absolutely love it! Finally, I wanted to give a bit of a life update to tell you a few things you didn’t know about us lately.

First, my long leopard cardigan sweater and buffalo check tee are both from Shein. The buffalo check top is literally under $6 now and it’s probably my most worn top and I highly recommend it. I think mine is a size medium. They were gifted to me by the company awhile back and I still wear them all the time! I think the top is a few years old now! The denim shorts are from the Universal Thread line at Target and they work so well for me and my after baby body. I feel like they are long enough and fit the right way to hide some of my baby weight, yuh know?

Our stroller is the Joovy Caboose Too Ultralight and it is the best inexpensive double stroller ever! It’s sturdy, relatively light, folds up well, and has a cup holder! Plus, one of the biggest things about it for me was that it can hold a lot of weight so I don’t have to buy a new stroller as the kids get bigger. Oh, and the wheels work SUPER WELL, which was not our experience with our more expensive single stroller!

In other news, have you heard about our new business venture over here?! It’s an art subscription box called Classy Artist Box! Each month we send out supplies and access to a video lesson on our new site! This was our first month and I feel such a frenzy of nervously working out a few last minute kinks. BUT it’s so exciting to be able to do what I love and pass that joy to people around the country!

Today is an exciting day for us because in a little while we are launching our little kids boxes with options for preschoolers and elementary age kids! More on that soon, but for now here’s a link to our shop!

I love the kids boxes because it’s such a great way to spend time with your little ones in a way that you both can enjoy. Plus I’ve done all the shopping and creativity for you so you don’t have to come up with it all on your own!

Now I’m gonna go and start making the kids examples for our June boxes!! We are starting with fish related projects and I’m so excited to make them with Wolfie (who turns 3 this week)!!!!

Morning Routine?

Hello Friends,
Today I have a really serious question for you all– almost as serious as Kendall Jenner’s big, raw, horrible secret she was embarrassed to talk about!!! No, I’m not talking about acne, I’m wondering if any of you ACTUALLY go to get your mail/paper with a cup of coffee like they always show in movies and commercials. It is not practical, as we discovered for this photoshoot! haha

What’s your morning routine?

Mine typically consists of:

  • finish feeding Wellesley,
  • wrangleWolfgang as he pulls things off of shelves and drawers,
  • try to make my hair look slightly less greasy/crazy/homeless,
  • possibly swipe on lipstick or a bit of makeup,
  • earrings or a necklace, bracelets if I’m feeling fancy
  • laundry or unloading the dishwasher during breakfast,
  • playing paw patrol pups on the floor with big W,
Look at these incredible earrings!!!!!! I love that these are now a regular in my AM routine because I can wear the same ones in a new way each day!!!

we wish you a berry Christmas…

Hello folks! I cannot believe Christmas is so close! I was thinking about helping y’all with more gift guides because you know I love to do those, but then I was thinking that if you don’t know what you’re getting people by now you will probably be running to your nearest Target for a quick pickup or Prime things to your house!

Quick gift idea:

If you are looking for a super unique gift, feel free to browse my art on my shop page, I will get it to you ASAP so it’s there in time for Christmas or I’ll make you a personalized downloadable printout to show your person what he/she is getting! I even have a gift card option on there if you would like to go that route for a custom piece!

Another quick gift idea could be using my 20% off code 4theclassyartist20 on Shein for someone in your life who wants a little closet pick-me-up!

Like my top?!

This berry color top is from Shein (of course) and it is so classic for fall & winter! It is just $15 and comes in a gorgeous mustard yellow and blush pink! Use code 4theclassyartist20 for 20% off of your purchase now through January 1st!

I ordered this top along with that gold and white blouse I posted about yesterday and it is such a great one  that I’ve worn it twice this week!! It’s a little cropped compared to yesterday’s blouse, but it’s long enough to cover the goods if you’re wearing high-waisted pants like mine. I also love that it’s lined so I don’t need to wear an undershirt.

I’ll be posting our Christmas card photo tomorrow so check back for that! Also, Wellesley is 3 months old today!

Wellesley Bea, we love you so so much! And just look at how cute they are together!

Halloween Sugar Cookies for the Neighbors (Using the best recipe ever!)

halloween cookiesHi guys! I’m just over here making some yummy sugar cookies for the hood and I thought I would share the recipe because it’s legitimately the best and easiest recipe I’ve ever used!

Sugar Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all purpose flour

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Combine soft butter and sugar in mixer until smooth
  3. Add vanilla extract and egg to the butter/sugar mixture
  4. add baking powder and salt. Mix and scrape sides of bowl with spatula to make sure it’s evenly combined.
  5. Slowly add 3 cups of flour, scraping down sides of bowl periodically to make sure it’s all combined.
  6. Remove dough from the mixer and separate it into workable sized chunks.
  7. Sprinkle flour over your clean work surface and roll out dough.
  8. Cut cookies, add to pan, and bake in the preheated oven for 6-7 minutes. They will continue baking on the pan so don’t leave them in much longer than 7 minutes!
  9. Let cool, then decorate!

Here is a link to the dough recipe… I made a few slight changes (mostly in how to combine the dry ingredients) it is so good and the shape stays well.

frosting recipe

(so basic, but works!)

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 4 tsp of milk

Directions:

  1. Mix together with a whisk and add food coloring as desired! add more milk if you want it more liquid-y and add more powdered sugar if you want it stiffer.
  2. Add food coloring as needed.
  3. For solid color areas, spoon and spread the frosting on the cookie.
  4. for details, use stiffer frosting (add more powdered sugar) and pipe the frosting onto the cookies.

This doesn’t make tons of frosting so you may need to make a few batches, which is fine especially if you will need a few different colors. I made 2 batches and turned my orange into brown for the pumpkin stem, then I used another batch and left some plain white to pipe out the skeleton, after that I added blue to do the bats, and then added yellow to my blue leftovers to make the green.

Beginner tips

make a few batches, add food coloring, and decorate quickly so the frosting doesn’t dry out
To make very basically decorated cookies a little cuter, make sure to add more than one color or add edible embellishments like the eyes I used!

I’m really excited to bring these to the neighbors with some cute cards tomorrow because we usually don’t do anything like this, but we have been learning lately how important it is to be good neighbors. Jesus even says we need to be so I guess we can’t argue with that!
